Aims & Scope

Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (OMD) are among the greatest challenges to global health. The prevalence of obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia and their complications is increasing markedly, renering it a major challenge for both basic researchers and clinicians to develop novel strategies to combat these disorders. Enormous progress is currently being made in understanding the genetics and mechanisms of body weight regulation, deciphering the phenotypes of obesity and diabetes, and developing novel nutritional, surgical and pharmacological approaches to effectively treat these serious medical problems.  Similarly, new ways of treating various forms of hyperlipidaemia, including RNA-based treatment approaches are developed. Most importantly, elucidation of the genetic basis and its interaction with environmental factors will lead to rational and individualised preventive strategies.

The newly launched journal "Obesity and Metabolic Disorders" aims to provide an important and vibrant platform for researchers to share their ideas and findings on the translational biology, epidemiology, pathogenesis and management of these disorders and their complications. We will publish peer-reviewed research articles as well as timely review articles, both mini-reviews and full-length reviews. Our overall goal is to provide a forum for better understanding and reducing the global burden of these diseases. It will be published quarterly by Scilight Press.

The topics include but not limited to:

  • Metabolic disorders, metabolic syndrome and related treatments
  • Diabetes and its complications
  • Weight-related health problems, including health risks such as overweight and underweight
  • Nutrition and healthy diet
  • Genetic, behavioral and environmental factors that lead to obesity
  • Obesity in children and adolescents
  • Advances in obesity research, including treatments, pharmacology, obesity prevention, etc.
